Sometimes all you need is a little motivation to get you up and focusing on your online business. We know this first hand as back when we weren’t making much money online all it took was for a sale to come through and we would be back on track. Motivation or more specifically ‘a lack of motivation’ is what usually kills most people trying to make money online. While they are motivated things happen – as soon as the motivation disappears everything falls into a heap and they start making comments like “internet marketing is a scam and nobody really makes money online”.

We’ve been in this business a long time now and we  have a pretty good idea of what it really takes to make it online. We have studied other people trying to make it and we can generally get an inkling about who is going to make it and who isn’t.

So first of all if you want to make it in this business you have to make an agreement  - right here, right now - that it is possible to make a good living from working online. In fact, you have to  change your mindset and get it into your head that you – yes you - can make a fantastic living online.

I remember an email I received from someone who purchased our Amazonian Profit Plan ebook who just couldn’t get it in his head that it was possible to average 10k a month from promoting Amazon products. He was quite sarcastic about it all and even went so far as to say that we should be on Oprah or something as no one could possibly do that. We had a bit of a chuckle at that but we also felt kind of sad for him because we knew that if he couldn’t believe that someone can make that sort of money online then he will never actually do it himself. He really needs to change his mindset.

You have to believe it first before you have any chance of making it a reality for you.

So if you’ve been around a while now but still aren’t making much money or none at all then this is for you. We know exactly what you are going through because we’ve been there too. In fact, we were there for quite a long time – around 5 years to be exact. Sure we made a little bit of money here and there and we made it to around a thousand a month but it was nowhere near what we needed to give up our day jobs. You see we were really just playing – we both wanted to give up work and become full-time internet marketers but because we didn’t see instant success we didn’t really maintain a consistent approach to it all. So in between it all, we started an online wholesale jewellery business, a Sunday art and craft market and an eBay business. We did all this whilst we were working full-time mind you, so no wonder we never really made it online.

We had a lot of excuses as well – among  our favorites was “the only people who make money online are those that teach others how to make money online”.

It wasn’t until 2008  that we decided to start taking it a little more seriously. We signed up to the James Martell Affiliate Marketers SUPER BootCamp -  which at the time was an 8 week online course in which James took us through step-by-step on how to build and make money from a website. We actually knew most of what  he was teaching at that point because we had purchased his handbook  a few years earlier but we really needed the reinforcement that James provided and it did the trick. From that point on we knew that this was what we wanted to do and we stuck at it until late in 2009 when everything started to fall into place. We  refined what we did until it worked for us and bang, suddenly the money started to pour in.

While we were doing the James Martell Bootcamp we listened to a ‘Coffee Talk’ by Bronwyn Bamber, a lady who at the time was making $30,000 a month online.  We listened to Bronwyn’s coffee talk whenever we started to flag in our efforts and needed to get back on track. Talk about motivational.  So we set this as one of our goals – to make $30,000 in a month. That was many years ago and guess what?…we finally exceeded that this month with our Amazon commissions.  We are actually in a state of euphoria at the moment, who wouldn’t be.  Our goal now is  to firstly maintain this level and then work towards doubling it.

By the way, you can listen to our ‘Coffee Talk’ and Affiliate Buzz interviews that we recently had with James. You might also want to listen to a talk by another student of James, Dan Maynard, who is also starting to see the real benefit of using Amazon as a merchant. He went from $500 a month to around $4000 a month simply by changing his affiliate links to Amazon links. Each of these talks is worth listening to whenever you need a bit of motivation.

Why we’re telling you all this is because we want you to know that we understand exactly what you are going through if you are not making your desired income. It’s painful, and family are not always supportive of your efforts, especially when they can’t see the fruits of your labor.

And although many guru’s will tell you that you can make vast sums of money overnight, this is a pipe dream for the majority. Internet marketing takes time, dedication and focus.  And by finding something that works for you and sticking to it, you too will have the success you desire and deserve.  We found it with our own plan,  and we have never looked back since implementing it.

And the winners are….

This is just a quick post to announce the winners of our Christmas Giveaway and to wish everyone a Merry Christmas. Hope you are all happy, safe and well and enjoying the day.

Thank you to everyone who entered and  we also want to say thank you for some of the amazing comments.

We had great fun holding this competition and even greater fun drawing the winners. By the way, the competition winners were randomly drawn using the  ‘Random Number Generator” at www.random.org. If we had to draw the winners ourselves we would never have been able to reach a decision.

So the winners are…

1st prize – The Kindle – goes to Kelly from www.kjfleming.com

2nd prize – a copy of the Amazonian Profit Plan – goes to Julie Anne from www.serioussewing.com

3rd prize – $50 Amazon voucher – goes to Sharon (and since there is more than one Sharon that left a comment,  this is the Sharon that left her comment on December 16)

And just because its Christmas and we want to see as many people as possible making money in the new year we have also randomly drawn another 4 winners who will receive copies of the Amazonian Profit Plan eBook to help with their endeavors. We were actually pleasantly surprised that there were around 25 people who entered the competition who were only interested in winning a copy of the Amazonian Profit Plan…that shows to us how dedicated these people are to making it online.

So for this part of the draw we created a short list of all those people and the winners are…

4th prize – a copy of the Amazonian Profit Plan – goes to Geoff Baxter

5th prize – a copy of the Amazonian Profit Plan – goes to Lisa from www.plralacarte.com

6th prize - a copy of the Amazonian Profit Plan – goes to Chuck from www.silkeskin.com

7th prize – a copy of the Amazonian Profit Plan – goes to Pete from www.mybestfoodprocessorreviews.com

Each of these people will be notified via email.

Once again, thank you to everyone who entered.

I can’t believe that it is almost Christmas. The year has passed so quickly. In that time a lot has happened but for us it’s been a pretty good year.

So in the spirit of Christmas we thought it was time to give out some presents so we have a givewaway that you can all enter.

The prizes on offer are:

- A Kindle 3G + WiFI Reading Device

- A copy of our Amazonian Profit Plan ebook

- A $50 Amazon Gift Card

We know a number of you will already have the Amazonian Profit Plan and so you probably won’t need another copy, and some of you might even have a Kindle but I am sure most people would be happy with a $50 gift card from Amazon. We have tried to include something for every one. So make sure you include in your comment which prizes you actually want to be in the draw for -   there is no reason why you can’t be in all three.

We will be drawing each prize randomly from the comments left below so it’s not based on what you write in your comment – as long as you let us know which prizes you want to  be in the draw to win that is the main thing. And you can only win a maximum of 1 prize in this giveaway – if your name is drawn we will be taking it out of the hat to give everyone else a chance to win the remaining prizes.

We will be closing the competition at midnight 24 December and announcing the winners on Christmas Day with an update on this blog post. Each winner will be contacted via email.

NOTE: Just be aware that the Kindle does not work in every country so ensure it will work in your country before  nominating it as a prize, unless of course you intend to use it as a gift for someone in a country where the Kindle does work.

UPDATE - The winners have been drawn. Click here to see if you have won.

How Much Did We Make on Amazon in November 2010?

Well it’s been a whole year since we first revealed how much we made on Amazon in November 2009 and such a lot has happened since then.

We’ve said many times before that we don’t want to put all our eggs in the one basket so we have been working on a variety of different passive income streams in order to diversify our income. We have been trying out a few things over the year which seem to be working and we are pretty satisfied with the outcome.

Its now time for us get back into promoting Amazon products, after all we know how well they convert. Even though we didn’t spend a lot of time this year working on our Amazon product sites, the work that we did do resulted in an increase in our income which is pretty nice considering the downturn in the US economy.

Now, before I go any further, I want to reiterate that if you are new to making money online or if you’ve been around for a while and aren’t making much money then you really shouldn’t be looking for other methods to diversify at this point. The only time you need to start diversifying is when you are making or getting close to making a full-time income from one single source. Prior to that you need to focus on one income source until you start making money. There is no point diversifying if you aren’t making money from at least one form of passive income.

This is the number one mistake made by people trying to make money online. They jump on to the next thing that comes along instead of focusing on getting their first income producing stream working. We know what it’s like – we did exactly the same thing.

So our main goal for our Amazon sites for this past year was to get a number of different pages from a variety of different sites making money. This has worked nicely as we are seeing income come in from a variety of sites now and not just a few.

What we did do was create a few brand new product reviews but mostly we went into our stats and selected pages on our sites that were getting traffic already but were not converting very well. We then set about reworking the reviews into the new longer format. Even to this day we still have a lot of poorly written reviews on our sites. Reviews that are not particularly helpful to the reader and are just a rehash of product information; this is how we used to write reviews  until we realized some time back that they don’t convert very well at all.

In the past year, we only ever worked on 3 to 5 pages at a time. There might have been 2 from one site and another 2 from another site and another from a third site.  We didn’t work on those sites as a whole – just on those individual product review pages from those sites.

So How Much Did We Make on Amazon in November 2010?

As you can see from the screen shot we made a total of $19,023.09 last month. So that’s about $4500 more than this time last year. Interestingly enough, our conversion rate has improved from last year. There could be a number of reasons for that but I’d like to think it is because we are writing better quality reviews and slowly reworking the poorly written ones on our site.

Another interesting thing to note is that the number of clicks is down a little from last year. Again there could be a number of reasons for this – perhaps the downturn in the economy in the US?? Hard to say since it is not a huge difference.

I wish I had taken a screen print on the 30 November because it would also have shown the commission rate we received which was 8.25%. I don’t think we have ever hit the 8.5% rate but it may be on the cards for December since we are already at the 7.5% commission rate and have earned $2384 for just the first two days of this month.

As you can well imagine, we are extremely happy with this. It’s been a long road for us to reach this point – we’ve worked hard and it has taken us a lot of years to finally get things working for us. So to see these sorts of figures really puts smiles on our faces.

You can see now why we have decided to get back and spend more time on our Amazon sites. That will be our major focus in 2011.

We hope you can use this as a bit of motivation to get you going for next year. You can do it – we know you can, because if we can do it you can too.
