Amazon WordPress Plugins – Our Review of WP Zon Builder
Just recently we were lucky enough to be given a copy of an Amazon WordPress plugin to review. To be honest, we had never heard of this plugin so when the owner asked us to review it, we really weren’t expecting too much. After all, we have used the ReviewAzon plugin for quite some time on a few of our blogs and are very happy with it. We didn’t think anything could match it….that is until we actually tried WP Zon Builder.
This is one feature packed plugin and at this point we think it just nudges out ReviewAzon as our top Amazon plugin….not by much mind you, but just enough that we can say that we prefer WP Zon Builder over ReviewAzon. And I actually don’t like saying that because ReviewAzon is such a great plugin and you won’t regret buying it but for us the WP Zon Builder has a few extra features that have won us over.
As anyone who has read this blog knows, we make a nice income from promoting Amazon products and we are always on the lookout for anything to make our lives easier. And although we don’t really use these types of plugins in a big way, we still like them because they allow us to add reviews that automatically include all of that extra data from Amazon like images, prices, specifications, weights, measurements and so on. This means we don’t have to manually add this data ourselves.
You can use these types of plugins in one of two ways:
1. Adding products using the content from Amazon without making changes – This involves adding Amazon products to your blog without you making any changes to the content that comes over from Amazon. You can literally spend an hour or so using this plugin to add thousands of Amazon products to your blog and take the rest of the year off as the content is drip fed to your site. I’ll show you how this works a little later in this article.
2. Adding products using the content from Amazon BUT you make changes – What this means is that you use this plugin to bring over the content from Amazon but you make changes to that content and replace it with your own product review. This plugin allows you to do that so the content isn’t just a duplication of what is on the Amazon product page.
We use both options but we definitely prefer the second option. If you can add your own review then you will be streets ahead of the rest of others using these types of plugins.
How Does the WP Zon Amazon Plugin Work?
You can add Amazon products in one of two ways with this plugin:
1. The first method involves creating a new post
You pretty much create a new post as you would any other post on your blog and add the product details there. I actually like this method because it gives me a little more control over what is in the post. What I do with this method is simply click on Posts –> Add New and under the text box is a section that I can enter an Amazon ASIN (each product on Amazon has an ASIN number) and then I click Insert. This automatically places a piece of code in my text box which displays an image of the product, a title of the product with a link to Amazon using my affiliate link, the average rating and the total number of reviews. This is what it would look like:
Then once I add my own unique content my post will look like this:
2. The second method involves adding posts en-masse.
With this method you can add hundreds, if not thousands, of posts in less than half an hour. Not my sort of style personally but great for those wanting quick, massive amounts of content added to a site. You can even stagger those posts so that they go up randomly for any period of time you set. You can even back-date them so that they are posted with dates in the past.
You can also use this method, as we do, for finding products based on a specific criteria that you set. This is one of the features we really love about WP Zon Builder. The filtering system is excellent and allows you to narrow down the search based on category, keyword, maximum and minimum price, average rating and the number of customer reviews. You can also sort those results by Featured Items, Bestselling, Relevance, Price, Newest Items and items On Sale.
This is a view of the Find Products page in the WordPress dashboard.
From this page you select your products and add them to a Queue. Once you’ve added 1 or more items you then click on the Post Products link from the dashboard menu and select the dates you want those posts to go up on. You can let them all go up straight away or select from and to dates so that they go up randomly during that period. There’s also a check box that you can select which prevents duplicate products from being posted.
This is what the posts look like if you select this method. If you notice it has brought all of the details over from Amazon. I haven’t changed a thing. However, the beauty of this is that I can change it if I like. I just go in and edit the post and add or change what I like.
Notice also that it has also automatically brought over the consumer reviews from Amazon and added them as comments. I really like that feature. You have the option of turning that off if you like or if you decide to keep the customer reviews you can change the settings so that you can select how many comments are displayed and only show comments that have a minimum rating. You can also sort those reviews by rating, most helpful, and submission date.
There are so many features that this post could go forever so I am just going to summarize the main ones below:
- You can automatically use Amazon tags as your post tags or alternatively create post tags from the Amazon product title or use neither if you like and just create your own.
- There is an option for creating ‘pretty’ links so that your links to Amazon look like regular links and not long affiliate type links.
- The plugin links with the All in One SEO Pack plugin so that it will automatically set your All-In-One SEO Pack post titles, meta keywords, and meta descriptions for any Amazon product posts. Y0u can turn this option on or off.
- An update button within each post so that you can update the product details that have come over from Amazon at any time. The creator of this plugin tells me that he will be adding an automatic update feature in a future release of this plugin.
- You can make the links to Amazon nofollow if you like.
- This plugin will work with any theme. We use the Flexsqueeze theme for most of our sites but this will work on anything according to the creator of this plugin.
- This works with any Amazon country affiliate program.
- It includes widgets so you can add products to your sidebars.
- Click Reporting which provides stats on which products are getting clicks through to Amazon.
- You can use more than one Amazon Associate ID and if you need to you can easily change the Associate ID for the entire site.
- It integrates with other plugins like phpOStock, phpBay, Auction2Post, and other plugins that display Overstock.com and eBay products. We haven’t tried this function as yet so we can’t advise on how it works.
- You can search for and add Youtube video reviews from within the post itself.
This is a great plugin and we highly recommend it whether you want to add mass product posts or individual unique product reviews.

Great review of WP Zon Builder. I bought Amaniche a while back and i have used on a couple of my Amazon sites. Have you ever heard of this plugin? If you have what do you think of it? Thanks for all your tips and advice Paula. I made $20 commision in May with my Amazon sites. I hope to make a lot more. I plan on building 50 Amazon review type sites.

No I haven’t heard of it. It seems there are so many of these plugins around at the moment. I might do a comparison of them all at some point.
And congrats on your Amazon commissions for May. I can see from your site that you create your own reviews which is great.
Hi Paula
Thanks for this post. You always write something that is of great interest to me and well timed.
I have been wanting to add some Amazon products to my site and this looks like it will make life a lot easier.
Do you happen to know if you have more than one website that you want to use it on if you have to purchase the plugin separately for each one?
Thanks Shirley

You can use this on unlimited sites which makes it a good deal.
Thanks Paula
I did go ahead and purchase this plugin. I have it installed, now I have to decide how I want to use it. I’m going to read your post again.
Thanks Shirley

That’s great Shirley. If you need any detailed help just email me.
Not a cheap plugin at all, especially when not at the “introductory” price. This review however is awesome; makes it a sweet deal!
I’m thinkin’, 2. The second method involves adding posts en-masse, might be a good option if you outsource the actual content portion. Spend 30 minutes or so setting up, then just hand it off for the content.
Dennis Edell | Direct Sales Marketing´s last blog ..The Future of DEDC – Part 2 – This is Part 1 Simplified
That’s a really good idea Dennis. I am going to add that one to my list of possibilities.
As for the price, it is currently cheaper than ReviewAzon so as good Amazon plugins go the price is quite reasonable I think.
Sorry to say; not really a selling point. That might have the tendency to just tell people ReviewAzon is waaay over-priced, lol.
I will say though, the fact that you can pay once for unlimited blog use tends to offset high cost. Some plugins are actually a monthly cost, or per blog license.
Dennis Edell | Direct Sales Marketing´s last blog ..Less is More – Here’s My Current To-Do List
I disagree with that Dennis. I think it is a selling point. If you’re shopping for a product and how much you spend is important to you then finding a product cheaper, when it is equal in standard or better than another, is definitely a selling point.
If said product was for affiliate marketing, as this one is, and I was a full time affiliate marketer, I would absolutely agree.
If I were amongst the other percentage, the much higher percentage, then I would not.
I think I may have just found an answer. I might assume, those selling plugins, normally free, for such high prices, they are most likely marketing to those that would REALLY use them…aka affiliate for the plugin itself as well.
Would you maybe agree to that?

Hello,
A very important question here, though not directly related. I just started with amazon.com, been writing reviews. Today when I logged in to my amazon account, I was surprised to see 5 orders placed. When I looked at the details, only 1 product was from the review I wrote, and 4 others were un-related. Do I get commission for these too, since I referred these people to amazon.com?
Please let me know. I am very curious.
Thanks
Dave
Most definitely you will get commission for those sales. This is why I love Amazon – you can send your readers to Amazon for one thing but they may buy something completely different. I can guarantee that most of your sales will be for items other than what your review is about.
Thanks a lot Paula, I am so relieved now. By the way, I was inspired to get into amazon aff marketing after reading your articles here.
That’s really nice to hear Dave. It’s obviously starting to work for you. Just keep working on getting traffic and those sales will increase.
Paula, I do have a question. I am not expecting an exact answer, as I know different products have different commission. Let me put it this way. How many product reviews did it take you before you saw a measurable success? Again, I know there isn’t a exact answer for this, but I want to get an idea of conversions, traffic, comission, etc. Just an idea.
I started writing a response to your question but it was getting bigger than Ben Hur. So I’ve decided to answer it in a blog post which I am working on now and should be up in the next few days or so.
Here’s the blog post Dave to answer your question – http://www.affiliateblogonline.com/2010/06/09/how-many-product-reviews-do-you-need-to-write-to-start-making-money-online/
Hi Paula,
I love reading your blogs. When you post a blog post about a product on Amazon – how do you get visitors to it? Do you use backlinks to promote that exact page? Example, if using gold rings for a term – how would people find your 1 post for such a generic term?
I am currently doing all my own writing for my blog and feel almost like a fish out of water b/c I don’t understand how people will come across them. I am fine with promoting my own main product pages with backlinks, but blogs must be a whole other story?
Thanks and I can only hope for your kind of success!
Liz
Our main method of getting people to a page is by backlinking. We use a lot of different methods but one of the main ones is providing articles to other websites. We offer them a free well written article in exchange for allowing us to add two or three links in the article back to our website (or in this case to our product review pages). We also do blog commenting, social bookmarking and networking, forum posting and so on. A variety of methods is best.
And there is no difference between website pages, blog pages, blog posts and so on when it comes to backlinking. They are all just pages on the internet so you treat them all the same when it comes to backlinking.
Thanks Paula! That is where I get hung up – not viewing my blog pages the same as my regular website pages. Thanks.
Liz
No problem Liz.
Paula,
Love this awesome blog!
Quick question – I thought it was against terms of service for Amazon to change the content of their item descriptions?
Also I own Reviewazon…is it possible to work with it by adding lots of content to the top, or do you think the entire content needs to be changed?
Work at Home Money´s last blog ..Keyword Academy – HubPages
We’re actually not changing the description but instead deleting it completely and replacing it with a review. So you should delete the word “Description” as well.
You can also use ReviewAzon by adding extra content to the top of the content that comes over from Amazon.
I’m interested in getting this plugin. Do any of your Amazon affiliate sites rank well in Google once you do a good amount of backlinking? How does this plugin affect your search engine rankings? Is there be any chance of ranking for “x reviews” just by using this and not writing any original content? I plan on using this for my own reviews mostly, but I am interested in how Google views the auto-content vs. original content.
We haven’t noticed any change in ranking since using these types of plugins. Having an Amazon site makes no difference to how Google ranks the site. The only time they might is if you just used these plugins without changing the content that comes over from Amazon. And even then, Google isn’t going to penalize your site for that but what will happen is that you will have the same content on your site as Amazon and how are you going to beat Amazon into the top spot for that product when you are using the exact same content? It would be pretty difficult.
I was going to ask a question but did a search and found you had an answer for me…..but only to part of the question – so here it is.
You have talked about your experiences with a couple of Amazon plugins, I think Amanich and WP Zon. You answer my question about rewriting the descriptions, (you don’t, you delete them and do your own review)but, have you noticed any increase in traffic as a result of using the plugin?
I have just started using WP Robot and my traffic has just gone crazy. I don’t have any conversions as yet, but I am talking about an additional 350+ clicks in 3 days.
Based on your posts I am going to switch the plugin off for a few days while I go back and write my own reviews. I needed the extra volume of products on my site but agree with you that it needs to be different to distinguish my site from every body else.
Just wondering about your traffic levels since using the plugin.
Keep up the great work Ladies.

We haven’t really noticed any difference in traffic. But then we haven’t used these plugins extensively enough to test them.
If that plugin is getting you traffic then by all means keep it going.
Just in adition to the post I just made: I just checked my amazon stats and yesterday I got
Clicks & Conversion Summary
July 8, 2010 to July 8, 2010
Product Link Clicks 5
Other Clicks 237
Clicks 242
TOTAL CONVERSION 0.00%
What are ‘other’ clicks? I can’t find anything in the glossary. And, any ideas how to make these product clicks???? LOL.
Thanks.

I just copied this info from Amazon. They explain it better than I ever could:
“In the summary at the bottom of the report, you may see a number of “Other Clicks.” These are clicks from other link types, including links to the home page, links to search results, recommended product links, and links to the main landing page for each product category. Use the Link-Type Report to see how each link type is performing for your Web site.”
