Google Wave: I Finally Got My Invite

I’ve been waiting what seems like forever for a Google invite and finally got one a couple of weeks ago. But you know what?…its only this week that I finally got around to logging in and checking it out properly. Pretty bad I know since there are thousands still dying to get in and try out Google Wave.

I’ve only had a quick play but have already integrated the ability to tweet from my Google Wave account and now I am trying to see how it integrates with WordPress. I have downloaded a WordPress plugin called Wavr which allows you to imbed Waves into a blog post.

So to see if this works and also how it works, I have created a Wave in Google Wave and imbedded it below. If nothing shows up then I obviously didn’t do it right but if it does I will be adding to the Wave to as it is supposed to automatically add each addition of content to this blog post. So let’s see…I am going to Publish this post right now…I’m excited!

Update: Well I can’t seem to get it working just yet. As you can see below there is a Page Not Found window. Too late for me to play around with it now so I will see if I can get it working tomorrow.

Another Update: Seems to work in Firefox but I can’t see it in Internet Explorer…and what’s with the green background.?

Latest Update: I’ve decided to remove the plugin because it really isn’t working consistently. Instead I have put in a screen print below of how it looks in Firefox.

  1. I haven’t tried it in IE but it works fine in Firefox for me.

BTW, I don’t have a green background…just looks like the default Gmail colors.

    • I ended up fixing the colors. All I see this morning is the login screen for Google Wave in Internet Explorer. It’s working okay in Firefox though.

  2. I like the ability to update Tweet status with the Tweetbot, although I have only done it once. I am excited about the WP feature as well and look forward to reading more about it. :)

    • I think I will need to research the WP integration a little more. This is just one plugin but I am sure there are other facilities, if not now then in the future, that will see us blogging from Google Wave.

  3. I’m in firefox (on mac) and it doesn’t seem to be working for me either :(

Sounds like it will be really beneficial though once it does work.

I also think google wave will be brilliant once EVERYONE can access it. There are many projects I would like to collaborate with others but they don’t have google wave so they’re not using it yet.

    • I know what you mean Sarge. You really need lots of contacts in Google Wave to get the most out of it.

  4. I’ve read before that Wave is only useful for corporate users, correct me if I am wrong. I can’t think of its use to us bloggers and other people.

    • I haven’t had a good chance to play with it yet to see if that is the case. However in the intro videos from Google their examples of how to use Google Wave were definitely marketed towards general users and not business.

I think that it will be useful for both in my opinion but as I say, it’s a bit early yet for me to give my opinion. I have only just started playing with it.

  5. No worries, I’m sure there will be 30 plugins to choose from by Valentines day. lol

I still have no idea what this is all about, but I’ll catch up eventually.

  6. I got my invite a few weeks back. Logged in twice, but haven’t done much with it at all. Maybe I will play with it over the holdays.

    • Exactly what I did Brad. I’m not sure the preview version of Google Wave has all the functionality. I am left wondering what to do with it.

  7. I just found you guys, awesome, i just started a blog and need all the help i can get so i will be reading intensely to gain the fullest from my blog. I look forward to our relationship.

  9. I was so excited when I got my invite, and then after using it for a few hours, I was disappointed. I feel like my invite didn’t give me access to all the super-cool features, because all I could do was chat with people. And I’m definitely not a fan of seeing what other people can type before they send it… there are too many times I enter a message and then want to retract or change it. I’ll have to give it a chance again sometime, maybe when all of the features are ready.

    • I feel a bit the same. I have only been in a few times but just not sure what to do with it.

And yes, I agree with the typing issue. I am not a fan of that either.

  10. Congrats to you!
Does this google wave plug-ins can be install in blogger?

    • I don’t think so but I am sure there will be plenty of plugins for Blogger since it is owned by Google.
